Just as I was in need of inspiration and a breath of fresh air I was presented with the opportunity to listen to Matthew Payne speak at our office meeting. It's funny how things work. Like someone read my mind and handed me the perfect solution.

As I sat in his seminar I listened to his words with great care and took everything in. Nothing was new to me... "be grateful for what you have".... "If you change your thoughts you change your life"... "everything that you are today is a result of how you think"... However it was so refreshing to get such a motivational push. It really made me think of who I am, what I have done, and where I am going. The potential that each and everyone of us posses is unlimited and only limited by ourselves. And by this it means that WE are our own worst enemies and it's our fears that keep us from accomplishing the great that we all have inside of us.

So if you are reading this... please let go of the fear and aim high. Your potential is so much greater than what you think is possible. As Matt would say... "Self actualized, successful people must be what they can be." Check him out, he's great!

I am in utter shock. Why is it that the news of suicidal misfortunes are becoming an increasing epidemic within the young adult community? Why was there no one to extend a hand out? And why did they never reach out for help?

It pains me to know that good people in this world suffer from depression and sometimes we are not aware about their struggles until it is too late. The burdens of todays economic times, the pressure from educational programs, family issues, addiction wars, whatever the issue was it was too much to handle alone. I wish someone was there to tell them they were NOT alone.

TWLOHA (To Write Love on Her Arms) is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.

Here is a little history lesson on this special day....

Hina-matsuri, also know as Girls Day, used to be one of the very few occasions when little Japanese girls had their own parties. It was customary up to the prewar years for them to invite their small friends to these parties at which they partook of the sweets and food offered to the traditional dolls.

Many interpretations are given about the festival. Families observe it to encourage filial piety, ancestor worship, loyalty, but above all is the love of children by Japanese parents, their joy and pride.

Up until recently I could rarely appreciate the joy of "reading for pleasure". I blame it on all the text books and assigned readings I had from school. Through out college there really wasn't any time to read for "fun" and if I ever had time to myself the last thing I would want to do is pick up a book and read some more. Yikes!

However, after graduating I found myself at a loss with no more research assignments or 700 page long text books. Being able to engage in a book that truly interested me became my new addiction. Yesterday was an unusual sort of valentines day for me. No flowers, cards, chocolates but rather I held one of my first open houses :)) and later went to dinner and a movie with my mom and dad. I must say it was a good day for me. Valentines day is the day you should share with your loved ones, and my parents were the perfect valentines for me!

On another note, this is such a cute song by Kina Grannis. Love her.

Hi, im still here. I promise! :)

Bead faire

It seems kind of tedious and maybe even stressful to some people, to have to stand for hours comparing, choosing, and scrutinizing over countless amounts of beads beads beads! However, I enjoy it... scratch that, I LUV it! :)

Today my mom and I went down to Santa Monica's bead faire. Silly us, we parked at a two hour meter, paid with quarters and after an hour of only seeing one vendor we knew we would be there long past our paid meter time. However, after my mom went back to feed the meter, and after she paid another two hours worth, she discovered that parking was FREE on sundays! We couldn't help but laugh at ourselves.

So 4 hours later and I am a happy camper. Stay tuned for new lines by LaurenLuvS!

I haven't officially "given back" to my community yet, but I'm working on it. I've realized that I have a lot of free time lately and wanted to get involved. I've also heard that "giving with out the expectation of receiving" can truly be a profound feeling. So here I go... trying to make a difference "with my own two hands" :)

my goodness it's been a while...

July 2nd and the days are zoooooming by. Unemployed but self employed trying to make a living by slanging some of my LUV. LaurenLuvs that is...

How it all started was by one little picture of a shinny set of earrings. I took one look and was fascinated by the work behind the art. So I tagged along with my mom and some of her gal pals to a bead show and fell in luv. Little did i know, stepping into a room filled with millions, scratch that, maybe trillions of different beads was only the beginning. There were endless options... some shinny, some not, pearls, gold, silver, crystal, and charms galore. You name it, they have it in all shapes and sizes. After hours of picking and strained eyes I found myself a happy camper with my bag full of treasures :)

Immediately i went home and started to fix my findings into little designs. I sure was proud of my floppy lopsided set of yellow flowered earrings. After learning the proper way to make a jump ring and figuring out which pins would fit into which bead, i discovered my newest hobby! It became an everyday evening project. My therapy.

I showed a few people what i was up to and they suggested i started my own little business. So here i am, hustling and bustling trying to sell them jewels and i LUV it! The only thing is, time is going by wayyyyyy too fast. So if anyone of you know how to make the days longer and slow the clock down please share your secrets. tee-hee.

when i first saw this quote i wasn't quite sure how to interpret it. but now that i've been presented with not one but two life changing once-in-a-lifetime opportunities i can understand its exact meaning.

if you live your life always questioning your abilities you will never get any where. when you let the "what ifs" stand in your way of tackling your dreams you will be forever frozen in time.

so when an opportunity is placed in the palms of your hand, take it! curl your fingers around it and take ownership of it before it's given to someone else. in the end the only thing you will know is whether or not the opportunity worked out for you. it's a win win situation. you win if you end up loving the opportunity and may even open some doors that would have never been discovered. or you win even if you end up not enjoying the opportunity as much as you hoped. it just becomes an answer to that question you know you will be asking yourself years later... "what if i once took that opportunity?" if you never take the opportunity you will never know how it "could have" changed your life. every experience is a learning experience.

don't ever questions your ability. when something is knocking at your door, give it a try. the least you can say is that you tried.

so i leave you with this quote that pretty much sums up the first one...

January of 2009 has come and gone in a matter of what feels like a heartbeat

The concept of time plays tricks with my mind. Is it just me, or is the world turning at a quicker pace now-a-days?

When I was little a day seemed so long, a week felt like forever, and a year eternity. I remember making those paper chain links to count down the days till christmas, or having restless nights because my birthday was a week away. Now, I pray for time to come at me at a tempo so I can try to keep up!

Every month that rolls by I can appreciate the entertainment of my life..."time flies when you are having fun"... my body hasn't quite figured out how to move in a rhythmic motion to time

it seems to me that there are those times where everyone conspires a party agenda. ~birthdays, house warming parties, holiday gatherings, friends visiting from out of town~ alllll in one week! eeek! these are the times that i wish i could press pause and play in slow motion

sometimes im at a standstill- at a place where I am unmotivated, lazy, and a big lump just taking up space (i like to think of this time as my mind relaxation vacation) but really with all this wind pushing me uphill, i need a little break here and there

after my mind relaxation vacation i get into motivated crazy mode. ill make a list of things id like to learn/do and tackle them one after the other: photography classes, jewelry making, sewing, knitting, guitar playing, the list goes on again... never enough hours one day

so as i grow older and as the years creep past me. i like to stop and think about where i am on this timeline and what am i going to do to enjoy the ride?

blogging.... maybe i can put it all down to help me remember where i was, what i am doing, where i am headed.

so hello blogger's world. here i am. love me or hate me, i am what i am :)
